Saturday, May 13, 2017 Toby Kebbell has been cast to play the leads in Genesius Pictures sci-fi Extrasensory, which sees the BAFTA nominated actor play twin brothers who are recruited for a top secret experiment by Soviet Russia to test the power of telepathic communication.
An outstanding British actor whose work on both sides of the Atlantic has won him critical and award recognition, Kebbell’s credits include Anthony Corbin’s Control, which earned him a BIFA for Best Supporting Actor, Guy Ritchie’s Rocknrolla, for which he received a BAFTA nomination, Stephen Spielberg’s War Horse and, more recently, Duncan Jones’ Warcraft: The Beginning and Jordan Vogt Roberts Kong: Skull Island.
Extrasensory will be directed by Lesley Manning (Leila) from an original screenplay by BAFTA and British Fantasy Award winning writer Stephen Volk (The Awakening), marking their second feature together following Ghostwatch, the controversial drama-mockumentary about a malevolent poltergeist, that fooled audiences when it aired on British television, resulting in over 30,000 calls to the BBC switchboard. Ghostwatch remains one of the most influential pieces in genre TV history. BAFTA nominated and Grammy and Golden Globe winning composer Harry Gregson Williams (The Martian, Prometheus) will write the score. Produced by Debbie Gray (Northern Soul) and Myf Hopkins, former head of production at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop (Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy), Extrasensory has been developed with and is supported by Film Cymru Wales. Shooting will commence in late October 2017.
Genesius has also boarded Mrs Lowry and Sons, a screen adaptation of the highly acclaimed play and Radio 4 drama, of the same name, that explores L.S Lowry’s troubled relationship with his overbearing mother. Written and adapted for screen by BAFTA nominated writer Martyn Hesford (Kenneth Williams: Fantabulosal), Mrs Lowry and Sons will be directed by world renown and multi-award winning director Adrian Noble (The Winter’s Tale, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) marking his second directorial feature following Midsummers Night Dream.
Finally, Genesius is delighted to announce that British singer songwriter and Elbow front man Guy Garvey, and I Am Kloot’s Peter Jobson will write the score for comedy drama The More You Ignore Me, the screen adaptation of Jo Brand’s critically acclaimed book of the same name, in which Sheridan Smith (Quartet) stars as a mother whose declining mental state has serious repercussions for the family. Directed by Keith English and produced by Debbie Gray, The More You Ignore Me also stars Ella Hunt (Robot Overlords), Mark Addy (The Full Monty) and Jo Brand (Getting On). The More You Ignore Me is currently in postproduction.
The Little Film Company is handling sales across all Genesius projects, helmed by seasoned film financier and producer Rob Little, whose credits include the Academy Award winning Tsotsi (Gavin Hood) and Antonia’s Line (Marless Gorris), and the Academy nominated Richard III (Richard Loncraine) and Before Night Falls (Julian Schnabel).
